What is the “Don't Mail Me” Register?

The Register enables consumers to list their contact details so that they will be excluded from receiving any more Mail or Tele promotions from any companies using marketing data supplied by Effective Intelligence. This Register is often referred to as an “Opt Out” list as one is “opting out” from receiving further promotions.

As an additional service this register is added to the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) Mail preference exclusion lists used by all accredited marketing suppliers

Why should I register my address or phone number on the "Don't Mail Me" Register?

The Effective Intelligence "Don't Mail Me" Register gives you an opportunity to limit the marketing promotions you receive. Once you register your details, then marketers supplied by Effective Intelligence will refrain from offering promotions to you.

Who manages the Effective Intelligence "Don't Mail Me" Register?

Effective Intelligence manages the "Don't Mail Me" Register as a service to consumers. We encourage anybody who wants to limit the promotions they receive to register their details. Your details will only be supplied to the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and their accredited suppliers and only for the purpose of excluding you from receiving future promotions.

Where did you get my name and details from?

We have built promotion marketing lists from many sources, with data from as far back as 1962. The information used to compile the lists has been sourced from public domain sources and joint venture promotions over the years.

Isn’t it illegal to have my contact information?

No, It is perfectly legal to have your contact information under current legislation. The new Data Privacy laws which are yet to be promulgated will require “Opt Out” to be enforced and that information only be used for the purposes it was gathered for. For more details please refer to the relevant authorities such as the DMA or DTI.

Do lots of consumers “Opt Out” of promotions?

No, very few people elect to restrict the promotions they receive. It is difficult to give accurate statistics but we estimate that only 1,000 people have elected to opt out from at least 50 million mailing pieces (from all suppliers and all major companies) over the last 10 years.
